Grinnell College's
Michael Brus '14 capped a huge weekend Saturday night by placing third, and earning All-America honors in the process, in the 200-yard backstroke at NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
After tying his school-record time of 1:47.17 in the preliminaries Saturday morning, Brus shattered that mark in the final with a clocking of 1:46.92. That was just .69 of a second behind champion Robert Barry of Denison, whose time of 1:46.23 broke the NCAA D-III national record.
Both Barry and runner-up Vladislav Romanov of CSI, who had a time of 1:46.79, are seniors.
Brus has already earned All-America honors in the 100 backstroke, as he finished eighth on Friday. The day before, he collected honorable mention All-America status in the 200 freestyle.
Brus' efforts helped Grinnell finish 24th in the men's team standings with 35 points.
