School record, 3 wins spark Grinnell women at own Dick Young Classic

A school record and three event victories sparked the Grinnell College women's track and field team to a runner-up team finish its own Dick Young Classic Saturday at Les Duke Track.

The 4x400-meter relay team's winning clocking of 4:02.50 broke the school mark of 4:03.82 established last season. Team members were Isabelle Miller '13, Christine Ajinjeru '14, Eloise Miller '15 and Sarah Burnell 14.

Other event winners were Burnell in the 1500 (4:44.82) and Sachi Graber '12 in the pole vault (9-5 ¾).

Runners-up for Grinnell were Sarah Jensen '15 in the 400 (62.58), Diana Seer '15 in the 5000 (19:26.21), Isabelle Miller in the 400 hurdles (68.32) and the 4x100 relay team of Emily Clennon '14, Elsa Goldman '15, Isabelle Miller and Eloise Miller (51.55).

The 4x100 team's performance ranks seventh in Pioneer history.

The Pioneers got third-place finishes from Ajinjeru in the 200 (26.91), Burnell in the 800 (2:18.95), Eloise Miller in the triple jump (33-9 ½) and Jordan Young '14 in the shot put (38-6),while fourth went to Alison Bayly '15 in the 10,000 (42:04.48), Young in the hammer (124-8) and Goldman in the pole vault (8-11 ¾).

Placing fifth for Grinnell were Ajinjeru in the 100 (13.41), Clennon in the 200 (27.17), Ellen Pinnette '15 in the 400 (64.43), Daria Brosius '15 in the 3000 steeplechase (13:31.01), Megan Huey '12 in the shot put (38-1/4) and javelin (98-4) and Heather Kubicek '12 in the hammer (115-8).

Grabbing sixth place were Nilob Nahib '13 in the 400 (75.08), Jolyne Piet '15 in the 3000 steeplechase (14:46.87) and Young in the discus (109-4) and javelin (91-9).

Grinnell scored 162 points in the eight-team meet. The champ was College of Saint Benedict with 331.5.
