DUBUQUE – A new school record and three event victories paved the way for a successful outing by the Grinnell College women's track and field team at Saturday's Loras College Open.
The school record came from
Jordan Young '14 in the hammer throw, where her toss of 132-10 eclipsed her previous Pioneer mark of 130-0 set earlier this season. She was fourth in the event.
Wins for Grinnell came from
Christine Ajinjeru '14 in the 400-meter dash (59.25),
Sarah Burnell '14 in the 800 (2:15.91) and the 4x400 relay team of
Eloise Miller '15, Ajinjeru, Burnell and
Isabelle Miller '13 (4:04.6).
Runners-up for Grinnell included
Meg Rudy '14 in the 1500 (5:08.65),
Hannah Colter '12 in the 5000 (19:22.37) and
Diana Seer '15 in the 3000 steeplechase (12:14.83). Seer's time ranks third in school history.
The 4x100 relay team of
Emily Clennon '14,
Elsa Goldman '15,
Isabelle Miller and Ajinjeru was third in 51.71, while
Megan Huey '12 was third in the shot put (36-8 ½) and javelin (85-7).
Clennon was fourth in the 100 (13.08), while she also placed fifth in the 200 (28.16). Also placing fifth were
Isabelle Miller in the 400 hurdles (72.52), Young in the shot put (34-10 ½) and javelin (76-11) and
Athena Carlson '15 in the discus (109-5). Carlson's performance ranks ninth in school history.
Earning sixth were Young in the discus (104-0) and
Heather Kubicek '12 in the hammer (124-0), while seventh went to
Sarah Jensen '15 in the 400 (64.21) and
Sachi Graber '12 in the pole vault (9-10).
Kubicek's hammer performance is second on Grinnell's all-time chart and Graber ranks sixth in the pole vault, as does Goldman who also went 9-10 and placed eighth. Kubicek was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 75-3.
Carlson remained eighth on Grinnell's all-time chart in the pole vault, though she improved her career-best to 9-3 ¾.
The Pioneers are slated to compete at the Monmouth College Invitational next Saturday.
