DE PERE, Wis. –
Christine Ajinjeru '14 shattered a school record and
Sarah Burnell '14 won the 1500-meter run to pace Grinnell College's women at the 2012 Midwest Conference Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Norbert College.
Burnell won the 1500 in 4:43.84, defeating the runner-up by nearly 5 seconds. Burnell also improved upon her personal best of 4:43.90 and is third on Grinnell's all-time chart.
Ajinjeru had the fastest preliminary clocking in the 400 dash with a time of 58.00, which beat the school mark of 58.39 set by Amanda Walker in 1997.
Grinnell had three pole vaulters among the top seven, paced by
Sachi Graber's '12 runner-up finish with a height of 10-1/2.
Elsa Goldman '15 was fourth at 9-6 ½ and
Athena Carlson '15 placed seventh at 9-1/2. Graber's leap ranks fourth in Pioneer history.
In the 10,000,
Hannah Colter '12 placed fourth in 41:30.05 and
Diana Seer '15 was eighth in 43:21.46.
Jordan Young '14 was seventh in the hammer (132-11),
Meg Rudy '14 placed eighth in the 1500 (5:03.24) and
Heather Kubicek '12 took ninth in the hammer (122-7).
Emily Clennon '14 and Ajinjeru made the finals in the 100 and 200 with preliminary times of 12.78 and 26.03, respectively. Clennon's time is fifth on the Pioneers' all-time chart and Ajinjeru's is second. Clennon had the third-fastest time in school history in the 200 (26.42), but did not make the final.
Grinnell is third in the team standings after the opening day with 33 points. Defending champion Monmouth College is first with 91.5.
