2013 MWC Championships Preview
GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College cross country teams are hoping the home course is to their liking when the Pioneers host the 2013 Midwest Conference Championships Saturday.
The women's race at Oakland Acres Golf Club begins at 11 a.m., while the men's event is slated for noon.
Grinnell's men have won 15 of the last 16 MWC titles after running away with the crown by 60 points over runner-up Lawrence University last season.
Leading the Pioneers is
Frank Canady '14, the defending MWC champion. Canady has the fastest time in the league this season, while teammates
Ben Tyler '14 and
Adam Dalton '16 are second and third, respectively. Others in the top 10 are
Sam Krauth '14 (seventh) and
Evan Griffith '15 (10th).
Nathan Kolacia '16 and
Zachary Angel '15 are ranked 11th and 12th.
On the women's side, Grinnell is looking to move up from last season's third-place finish. Monmouth College won the 2012 title, edging St. Norbert College 51-55. Grinnell was third with 69 points.
Last year's individual champ was
Sarah Burnell '14 of Grinnell, who is ranked second this season. She's joined in the top 10 by
Alosha Southern '17 and
Diana Seer '15, who are fifth and sixth.
Paulina Campbell '16 is 21st.
