Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa –
Jack Taylor '15 and the Grinnell College men's basketball team got the season off to a big start Friday with a 144-99 victory over Finlandia University at Darby Gymnasium.
Taylor , who made international headlines last November with an NCAA-record 138-point game, poured in 71 Friday with the aid of 11 3-pointers. He was 23-of-52 from the field.
Also in double figures for the Pioneers were
Patrick Maher '14 with 13 points and
Aaron Levin '14 with 11.
Kyle Parker '17 dished out five assists,
Evan Johnson '15 came up with four steals and
Stuart Hoegh '17 had three steals. The Pioneers had 21 steals as a team.
Grinnell used a big run in the first half to pull away, scoring 18 unanswered points to make a 5-all tie a 23-5 lead. Taylor had all of the points during the spurt other than a traditional three-point play by
Ryan Davis '16. In fact, Taylor had Grinnell's first 17 points of the game.
The Pioneers continued to cruise after that, leading 70-47 at halftime. They continued to add to their lead in the second half on their way to the easy win.
Grinnell entertains Crossroads College at 3 p.m. Sunday in Darby Gymnasium.
