Men's Results

GRINNELL, Iowa – Clean sweep.

That phrase describes what the Grinnell College cross country teams accomplished Saturday at the 2013 Midwest Conference Championships at Oakland Acres Golf Club.

Running in front of the home crowd and several alums, the Pioneer men raced to their 16th league crown in the last 17 years and 26th in the last 28 seasons.

Additionally, Frank Canady '14 defended his 2012 individual title, and Will Freeman was named the Men's Coach of the Year.

To make things even better, Grinnell's women edged Cornell College by a point to win their seventh MWC title in the last seven years. Also, Sarah Burnell '14 defended her 2012 individual title and Evelyn Freeman was tabbed Coach of the Year.

For Grinnell's men, the team title came in convincing fashion as the Pioneers outscored runner-up Lawrence University 35-58. St. Norbert College was a distance third with 89 points.

Canady cruised to the individual title in the 149-runner meet, touring the 8-kilometer course in 25:26.07 to become Grinnell's fifth individual champion in the last six seasons. The runner-up from Carroll University was more than 27 seconds behind.

Other top 10 finishers for Grinnell were Evan Griffith '15, who was sixth in 26:27.46, Ben Tyler '14, eighth in 26:35.63, and Sam Krauth '14, ninth in 26:39.75. Rounding out Grinnell's scorers was Nate Kolacia '16, who took 11th in 26:48.47.

Grinnell had eight All-MWC honorees in all. Others to collect the award were Zachary Angel '15 (12th in 26:50.58), Adam Dalton '16 (13th in 26:50.59) and Anthony McLean '17 (18th in 27:05.55).

Canady, Tyler and Krauth have been All-Conference four times apiece, while Kolacia and Dalton are two-time All-MWC honorees.

The Pioneers will compete in the NCAA Division III Regional Championships Nov. 16 in Northfield, Minn.
