APPLETON, Wis. – The Grinnell College cross country teams will attempt to defend their league titles when they compete in the 2014 Midwest Conference Championships, hosted by Lawrence University, Saturday.
The men's 8-kilometer race is slated for 11 a.m., while the women's 6-kilometer event is at noon.
Grinnell's women edged Cornell College by a point last season to earn its seventh league crown in the last 10 years.
Alosha Southern '17 has the best time for the Pioneers this season and ranks ninth in the conference.
Paulina Campbell '16 is ranked 17th and
Diana Seer '15 holds down the 20th spot.
Grinnell's men have won 16 of the last 17 MWC titles and 26 of the last 28. The Pioneers' have the league's top-ranked runner in
Adam Dalton '16, whose season-best time is more than 30 seconds better than that of the second-ranked runner.
Evan Griffith '15 is ranked third and
Anthony McLean '17 is eighth. Holding down the 13th spot is
Zach Angel '15.
