BELOIT, Wis. – The Grinnell College cross country teams are looking for a big showing at the 2016 Midwest Conference Championships hosted by Beloit College Saturday.
The men's 8-kilometer race at the Beloit Club is slated for 11 a.m., followed by the 6-kilometer women's race at noon.
Grinnell's women have won eight MWC titles since 2004 and have finished in the top three all but one time in that span.
The Pioneers are looking to improve on last season's third-place finish. They return two all-conference performers from that team,
Emma Zimmerman '18, who was seventh, and
Emma Luhmann '18, who placed 20th.
Luhmann is a two-time all-conference performer, as is
Alosha Southern '17. Zimmerman has earned all-league honors once.
Luhmann has the eighth-fastest time in the league this season and Zimmerman is10th.
Anna Ahrens '19 is also ranked among the leaders at 24th.
Grinnell's men have won 18 of the last 19 MWC titles, 28 of the past 30 and four in a row. Returning all-conference runners from last year's squad include runner-up
Anthony McLean '17 and
Matthew McCarthy '17, who was 10th.
McLean is seeking to be a four-time all-conference honoree and has the second-fastest time in the league this season. Others among the league leaders in times are
John Lennon '19 (fifth),
Jackson Schulte '20 (seventh), McCarthy (24th) and
Nate Crail '19 (25th).
