NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
Emma Luhmann '18 and
Emma Zimmerman '18 have enjoyed superb cross country seasons at Grinnell College in 2016, and they continued that trend Saturday.
Â
Luhmann was 15th in a 219-runner field and Zimmerman placed 33rd as each earned all-region honors at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Carleton College.
Â
Luhmann, also an all-region honoree in 2015, ran the 6-kilometer course in 23:00.5. That clocking ranks 10th in Pioneer history and puts her in contention to earn an at-large berth for the NCAA Championships, while will be determined Sunday.
Â
Zimmerman earned all-region honors for the first time and finished in 23:17.9.
Â
Other Pioneer scorers were
Anna Ahrens '19, who was 65th  in 23:51.9,
Mikayla Fujiwara '20, 69th in 23:54.8, and
Whitney Teagle '18, 119th in 24:51.7. Fujiwara's time is 36 seconds better than her personal best and moves her from 45th to 26th on the Pioneers' all-time chart.
Â
Rounding out the top seven for Grinnell were
Tori LaVerdiere '20 (131st in 25:09.1) and
Nicole Arredondo '19 (150th in 25:37.7).
Â
Grinnell was 10th in the 32-team meet with 301 points. Among squads the Pioneers beat was Luther College, the ninth-ranked team in the region. Grinnell entered the meet unranked in the region.
Â
The top two teams, and automatic national qualifiers, were champion St. Olaf College with 91 points and Nebraska Wesleyan University.Â
