WHEATON, Ill. – Grinnell College's women outdid all but two national contenders on its way to a third-place finish at the Gil Dodds Invitational cross country meet hosted by Wheaton College Saturday.

The Pioneers finished with 110 points in the talented 13-team field. Second-ranked Washington University of St. Louis won the meet with 22 points and host Wheaton, which is receiving votes for the national rankings, was second with 47.

Competing on a hot and humid morning,
Emma Zimmerman '18 led the charge for Grinnell by placing ninth of 186 runners. Her time was 22:46.2 over the 6-kilometer course.

Also scoring for the Pioneers were
Mikayla Fujiwara '20 (20th in 23:45.7),
Anna Ahrens '19 (21st in 23:52.4),
Cara Keleher '21 (26th in 24:14.9) and
Madeleine Breunig '20 (34th in 24:33.9). Also for Grinnell,
Emma Luhmann '18 was 40th in 24:47.1 and
Rebecca Villa '21 placed 41st in 24:52.0.

Hannah Roeske of Wheaton won the individual title in 2:20.8.

Grinnell travels to Northfield, Minn., to take part in the Carleton College Running of the Cows on Sept. 30.
