The department of Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreation aims to support the mission of Grinnell College and of the Office of Diversity & Inclusion in order to advance the social, cultural, and educational understanding of diversity in the context of co-curricular participation.

To accomplish this, the following values will be upheld:
 

1. Use diverse perspectives to support learning outcomes and contribute to the richness of a liberal arts education;
2. Provide members of historically underrepresented groups the opportunity to participate in an intercollegiate environment that recognizes and values a broad range of diverse identities;
3. Use athletics engagement as an extension of the greater campus community and the principles of self-governance
4. Use continued education, self-assessment and dialogue as tools to nurture a diverse intercollegiate athletic community;
5. Uphold the NCAA’s core value of diversity which urges a commitment to, “creating and supporting an inclusive culture that fosters equitable participation for student-athletes.”
