GRINNELL MEN’S BASKETBALL FORFEITURE STATEMENT

Grinnell College’s athletic director, Andrew Hamilton, announced the men’s basketball team is forfeiting six conference games after self-reporting a NCAA secondary rule violation. The forfeited games were played from Jan. 13-28. As a result, the team drops from 9-5 in Midwest Conference play to 5-9.
After learning of the violation, Grinnell’s athletic department immediately contacted the NCAA and Midwest Conference to work on self-reporting, and self-impose an institutional penalty by forfeiting the games. Individual and team records and statistics from those games will stand.
We regret that due to privacy concerns we cannot provide further information. We can verify, however, that the nature of the violation is isolated and will be remedied through changes in the Athletic Department’s administrative procedures.
