Entering the 2019-20 academic year, only 24 Grinnell College student-athletes had earned the rare honor of being named CoSIDA Academic All-American®.
Â
That exclusive club added a new member today as Jasper Yang '21 was named to the NCAA Division III men's soccer third team at a forward spot. Yang is the first Grinnell men's soccer player to be named to the Academic All-America® Team and the first Pioneer student-athlete to earn the honor since men's diver Daniel Goldstein was selected to the at-large team in 2016.
Â
The Academic All-America® Team is selected through a nationwide vote of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members.
Â
Yang, a biology major who boasts a 3.91 cumulative grade point average, has established himself as one of the top men's soccer players in program history. He was named first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District® and first-team All-Midwest Conference for the second year in a row in 2019.
Â
He led the league in goals scored this season with 12 and ranked among the top 50 nationally in both goals per game (0.71) and points per game (1.76). His goal total is 10th best for a season in program history, while the 30 points rank eighth. Additionally, Yang fired off 37 shots on goal, which is second best at Grinnell.
Â
With a season yet to play, Yang ranks fourth in Pioneer history in shots on goal (82), seventh in goals (28) and ninth in points (65).
