Grinnell College's Tyria Heath '21 has made her name known in the Midwest Conference, as indicated by being chosen the league's Women's Basketball Performer of the Week for the second time this season Monday.
But now the 5-9 guard from Phoenix, Ariz. (Desert Vista) has made some noise on the national stage as she was one of five women to be named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. It marks the first time a Pioneer has made the D3hoops team since Meg Huey did so during the 2011-12 season.
Heath erupted for 40 points, the eighth-highest total in program history, in an 84-62 win over Lake Forest College Friday night. Heath's point total was the highest for the program since 2007 and her field goal total of 17 was one shy of the school record. Additionally, Grinnell's 84 points were the second-most ever for the program against Lake Forest, and the 22-point margin of victory ranks second all-time versus the Foresters.
Heath had another dazzling performance against Lawrence University Saturday, where she scored 28 in an 80-77 win. Grinnell has now won 20 of its last 21 against Lawrence and 12 in a row against the Vikings at Darby Gymnasium. Heath leads the MWC in scoring with 23 points per game, which also ranks in the top 10 nationally.
