Adam Booth ’04 has been called “the Finest Male Cross Country Runner Ever for Grinnell College” by his former coach Will Freeman. Booth was not only a three-time cross country champion of the Midwest Conference, but he did not lose a race in the Midwest Conference over those three years. With this, he was also named an All-American, and placed fourth at the national NCAA Division III meet as an individual. He holds school records for the indoor 3 kilometer, indoor 5 kilometer and cross country, where he is the school’s fastest runner ever over 8,000 meters. He also holds spots in the top 10 list for the 800, 1,500, and the 10,000. Adam was also presented the David Theophilus ’51 Award, the John Welden ’51 Award, as well as the Paul H. Patterson ’42 and Paul H. Patterson ’65 Trophy. Academically, he was as talented in the classroom as he was in his running shoes, being a four-time Academic All-American while completing a degree in physics. After graduating, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Oregon, and serves as an assistant professor of geology at Portland State University.
