Elizabeth Fields ’94 earned her place among the athletic greats at Grinnell with her performances in the water. Over her collegiate career ‘Liz’ dominated while earning team MVP honors each of her four years. Liz burst onto the scene as a first-year by leading the team to a second-place finish at conference. At conference she brought home two first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke, and helped win two second-place finishes in relays. To top off this spectacular first year, Liz qualified for nationals while being named Freshman Athlete of the Year. During this season Liz led the team to a conference championship while managing two first-place finishes, 200 and 400 medleys. This became a trend as she would again lead the team to a conference championship in the two years to follow. Liz’s career at Grinnell was highlighted by her senior season. She garnered one third place finish, two second places, and two firsts in which she set school records. Liz left Grinnell with six school records; 200 and 400 IM, 100 and 200 backstroke, and two medley relays. The backstroke marks were also conference records. And if that did not seem enough, she also qualified for nationals in three different races. Liz is currently employed as a grant writer for an international non-profit organization fighting cancer.
