Jenny Wood '92-a Pioneer alum and current Grinnell coach, has had a distinguished career in scarlet and black. A two-sport athlete from Des Moines Roosevelt, Wood was a member of three conference championship teams and a six-time all-conference selection. She was four times chose as the most valuable player of the women's soccer team and as a senior acted like a true "Pioneer" when she became the first Iowan to receive All-America recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. On the hardcourt Wood contributed immediately and was voted most valuable rookie. In her junior year she and fellow inductee Melissa (Missy) Sharer '91 led the Pioneers to their first basketball conference title since 1979. Netting 1,124 career points, Wood ranks third in all-time scoring, while her 239 assists rank fourth in school history. Following graduation, Wood earned a M.S. degree in administration at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. She served as graduate assistant of the women's basketball team for three years before returning to her alma mater in 1995. Wood has completed her third year as head coach of women's soccer and basketball. This fall marks Wood's first season as the men's head soccer coach. She also continues to coach women's basketball.
