Grinnell College Athletics

Robert Dibble '53 was a two-sport athlete at Grinnell. Although he earned three letters as a basketball player, his forte was tennis. When Dibble arrived to campus as a freshman, he challenged the top Pioneer tennis player at the time and beat him! Using his gift of extremely quick feet, Bob tore into the Midwest Conference by claiming three consecutive conference championships. In basketball Dibble was a smooth  consistent performer at guard. As a senior he captained the eager Pioneers to a winning season. The Tuskegee, Alabama native also participated in intramural ouch football, at which Dibble excelled because of his "genius ankles". After graduation, Bob continued to play tennis, while adding golf to his regimen. He won several tournaments in both tennis and golf. A double major in chemistry and zoology, Dibble obtained his M.D. degree at Howard University Medical School in Washington D.C. He has been involved with medicine for the past 38 years, teaching at Howard University as well as maintaining his private practice. He received the Patient's Choice Award for consistently delivering outstanding patient care and was voted Outstanding Phyisician in Washington D.C.
