Robert Musser '62 joins his brother John in Grinnell's Athletic Hall of Fame by virtue of an outstanding basketball career.  A three-year starter who never missed a game, Musser led the Pioneers in scoring as a sophomore. He netted 15.3 points per game and averaged 4.4 rebounds, earning all-league honors. During his junior season the cagers posted a winning record at 11-10 and Musser again was the scoring leader with a 15.5 point average. The combination of his scoring average and increased rebounding stats, 5.9 boards per game, kept Musser in the all-conference ranks and merited Grinnell MVP honors.  As a senior Bob co-captained a squad that posted Grinnell's best record since the 1913-14 season. The Pioneers carved out an 18-4 mark and won a Midwest Conference championship along the way with a 16-2 record. The hoopmen also made Grinnell's only appearance in the NCAA basketball tournament at the regionals in Lincoln, Neb. Musser scored 12.7 points and grabbed 6.8 rebounds per game en route to all-conference honors again. Considered one of the finest shooters to don the scarlet and black, Bob holds Grinnell's single-season free throw accuracy record, 88%.  After attending M.I.T., Musser worked in Nigeria for the Ford Foundation for two years before joining the staff of Mobil Oil. He advanced through company ranks to become Mobil's corporate controller in 1988.
