Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – After giving up more than a thousand yards in the first two games, the Grinnell College football team's defense rose to the challenge Saturday at Lake Forest College.

The Pioneers limited the defending Midwest Conference champs to 274 yards, but in the end the hosts came away with a 15-7 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the league.

David Ternes '15 and Kevin Hwang '14 each had 11 tackles for the Pioneers, who fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the MWC. Jeremy Wiles '14 added nine stops and Max Keller '14 had eight. Goetz completed 16-of-36 passes, with Emmi Sandoval '16, Aamir Walton '15 and Jacob Meixler '15 catching three passes each. Jacob Bernholtz '17 led the rushing attack with 22 yards.

Grinnell opened the scoring in the first period after Clark returned an interception 29 yards to Lake Forest's 2-yard line. After a pass interference call put the ball at the 1, Bernholtz rushed it in for the score. Graham Fisher's '16 extra point made it 7-0 with 7:27 left.

However, Lake Forest scored with 3:09 left to make it 7-all after the first period, and got a safety in the second quarter for a 9-7 halftime lead. Field goals by the hosts in the third and fourth periods accounted for the final score.

Grinnell plays its first home contest of the season this coming Saturday against Beloit College. Action as Rosenbloom Field begins at 1 p.m.
