David Ternes ’15, a 6-2, 231-pound linebacker from Oakley, Calif. (Freedom), was named the Midwest Conference Football Defensive Performer of the Week.
Ternes broke a school record with 4.5 sacks in a 29-7 victory over Lawrence University on Saturday. That topped the previous mark of 4.0 sacks, set in 1999 by Matt Amendt.
Ternes, a two-time All-MWC selection and an All-Region performer in 2012, also had a game-high 15 tackles, including 13 solos, as Grinnell won for the first time this season. Ternes leads the league in tackles with 60, is second in sacks with 5.5 and third in tackles for loss with 6.5. He also ranks second nationally in tackles per game.
