After some huge performances, Grinnell College’s Matt Hammond ’17 has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.
Hammond, who is from Post Falls, Idaho (Post Falls), was named to the team at the catcher position.
The multi-year All-Midwest Conference performer is continuing where he left off this season. In a four-game sweep of Illinois College, Hammond had a blistering 1.154 slugging percentage. He hit .538, going 7-of-13 at the plate with two homers, two doubles, 11 RBIs, four runs scored and a .632 on-base percentage. His biggest hit was a walk-off grand slam homer in the seventh inning of Saturday’s 15-3 win.
At the catcher spot, Hammond boasted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 14 putouts in as many tries. Hammond is hitting .448 for the season with a .716 slugging percentage.
Hammond also pushed his RBI total to 36, which is sixth-best in Pioneer history with half-a-season to go.
