Niko Takayesu ’17, a shortstop from Kailua, Hawaii (Punahou School), was recently named Midwest Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Takayesu had a huge week as the Pioneers took three of four games from Knox College. He hit a sizzling .556, going 10-of-18 at the plate with two doubles, a homer, two stolen bases and six runs.
Takayesu accumulated an .833 slugging percentage during the week and .600 on-base percentage. Additionally, on Saturday he became Grinnell’s all-time leader in career walks with 80.
