GRINNELL, Iowa – For the second year in a row, Grinnell College's Kayla Morrissey '18 has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Great Lakes Region first team.
Morrissey, Grinnell's stellar third baseman who was recently named the Midwest Conference Player of the Year, made the all-region squad at an at-large spot. This is her third year as an all-region performer.
Morrissey's name was all over the MWC leader board in 2017, including being the leader in triples and walks in conference play with three and 14, respectively. She ranked second in on-base percentage with a .591 average, was fifth in batting average and runs at .460 and 17 and ranked ninth in slugging percentage at .640 .
Additionally, Morrissey set the school record for hits in a career this season with 139 and tied a school record with four hits in a game against Lawrence University. She also walked 17 times, second-best in a season.
Morrissey was Grinnell's first MWC Player of the Year since 1998.
