Grinnell College’s Sam Stickels ’19, from Fairfield, Iowa (Maharishi School), has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week.
Stickels helped the Pioneers to a pair of victories over the weekend by going a perfect 3-of-3 in his matches. In a 7-2 victory over Hastings College, Stickels gutted out a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win at No. 3 singles and teamed with Michael Conlin-Brandenburg ’21 to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. In the Pioneers’ 8-1 decision over Grand View University, Stickels and Conlin-Brandenburg won 8-2 in doubles.
During the weekend, Stickels moved up to 14th on Grinnell’s career doubles victory chart with 65 and is 25th in singles wins with 46. For the season, Stickels is 4-3 in singles and 6-3 in doubles.
