Enrique Valero Ying ’23 got his Grinnell College athletic career off to a great start Saturday and has been rewarded by being named the Midwest Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week.
Valero Ying, from Ciudad De Mexico, Mexico (American School Foundation), won four events in the Pioneers’ dual meet victory at Coe College. He took first in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes in 1:00.48 and 2:13.02, respectively, and 400 individual medley in 4:21.44. Valero Ying’s times in the breaststrokes rank 12th and 11th in program history, while his IM time is 15th.
Valero Ying also swam a leg on the 200 medley relay team that won in 1:40.04.
Grinnell athletes swept the MWC Performer of the Week honors as Sophie Wojdylo ’22 won the award for women’s swimming and diving.
