For the second time this season, Grinnell College’s Enrique Valero Ying ’23 has been named Midwest Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week.
Valero Ying, from Ciudad De Mexico, Mexico (American School Foundation), had an unmatched performance in leading the Pioneers to their ninth consecutive Grinnell Invitational title over the weekend. He was a six-time champion, including meet-record performances in the 200-yard breaststroke and 400 individual medley in times of 2:06.87 and 4:10.34, respectively. Valero Ying also won the 100 breaststroke in 59.09 and 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.74, and guided the 200 and 400 medley relay teams to victory in 1:38.20 and 3:36.18. All four of his individual winning times rank first in the MWC, as does the performance in the 200 medley relay. Valero Ying is now third in Grinnell program history in the 200 breaststroke, fourth in both individual medleys and sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
