If there was ever an automatic for a Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor, Sabrina Tang '23 is it this week.
Â
Unsurprisingly, the Grinnell College junior was named MWC Tennis Player of the Week after capturing the singles crown at the prestigious ITA Fall Regional Championships over the weekend.
Â
Tang, from Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (Stevens Point Area), became just the second Grinnell player in history to win the crown. After receiving a bye in the round of 128, the sixth seed fired off three wins over the next two days to advance to Sunday's quarterfinals.
Â
There, Tang posted a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over third-seeded Kelsey Dorr of St. Catherine's University and followed that up with a 6-1, 6-1 semifinal win over seventh-seeded Autumn Bruno of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Â
Tang then claimed the title with a victory via default over second-seeded Mary Frances Hose of Carleton College. Grinnell's only other ITA singles champ was Laura Krull in 2012.
