Grinnell College’s Jack Taylor ’15, who put together two amazing performances in recent days, has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Basketball Performer of the Week.
Taylor a 5-10, 165-pound guard from Black River Falls, Wis. (Black River Falls), first made history last season with his NCAA record-breaking 138-point game on Nov. 20, 2012.
On Sunday, he erupted for 109 points in a 173-123 victory over Crossroads College at Darby Gymnasium. That total is the third-highest in NCAA history, trailing only his effort last year and a 113-point game by Rio Grande's Clarence "Bevo" Francis in 1954.
Taylor was 35-of-70 from the field, including a 24-of-48 performance from 3-point land. He also hit 15-of-17 free throws as the Pioneers improved to 2-0. His biggest stretch came in the early part of the second half, scoring 53 points in the first nine minutes.
In a 144-99 victory over Finlandia University Friday, Taylor poured in 71 points with the aid of 11 3-pointers.
