Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa - The Grinnell College women's basketball team upped its Midwest Conference mark to 4-2 with a 62-55 victory over Beloit College Wednesday at Darby Gymnasium.
Tolu Alabi '13 had a double-double with a game-high of 19 points to go along with 12 rebounds for the Pioneers, who are 5-5 overall. She also had a game-high five assists.
Anne Boldt '16 added 15 points and two steals, while
Abby Jaeger '14 had 10 points.
Michelle Briggs '13 came up with game-highs of 13 rebounds and seven blocks to go along with two steals.
Alissa Hirsh '16 tallied three steals.
Two players had 14 points each for the Buccaneers, who fell to 0-6 in the MWC and 1-10 in all games.
Grinnell turned a tight game into a nine-point lead late in the first half when layups by Briggs and Jaeger and two free throws from Alabi made it a 34-25 Pioneers cushion. They were ahead 34-27 at intermission.
Grinnell kept up the momentum early in the second half, as Boldt drained a 3-pointer and Alabi converted a traditional three-point play for a 40-27 lead with 18:16 left in the game.
The Pioneers pushed their lead as big as 18 three times after that, the last at 54-38 on a layup by Alabi with 11:31 remaining.
However, Beloit gradually chipped away and came as close as three points with 2:59 left. However, Boldt made a jumper with 1:21 left for a 60-55 lead and Alabi sealed the victory with a pair of free throws at the :19 mark.
Grinnell travels to Waukesha, Wis., for a game Saturday against Carroll University. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
