Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's basketball team gave nationally-ranked Benedictine College of Kansas a good run for a time before the Ravens pulled away for a 71-57 victory Monday at Darby Gymnasium.
Alissa Hirsh '16 had a team-high 13 points to go along with game-highs of nine rebounds and four assists for the Pioneers, who fell to 0-7.
Cristal Coleman '15 added 10 points and four boards, while
Alex Neckopulos '17 and
Lydia Stariha '17 also had four rebounds each.
Coleman blocked two shots and four different players had a steal.
Chayla Rutledge scored 20 points for the Ravens, who are 12th in the NAIA Division I national rankings. With the win, they improved to 8-3.
Grinnell held one lead in the game, that being 3-2 on Coleman's early 3-pointer. The visitors responded, though, and built a nine-point lead late in the first half before Grinnell's
Leah Greenberg '17 hit a 3-pointer to make it a six-point game.
After Benedictine scored,
Sophia Gatton '17 finished off the half with a trey to make it 37-32 at the break.
A jumper by Hirsh and layup from
Alex Plemmons '15 brought the Pioneers within a point at the 18:53 mark of the second half. However, the Ravens answered with a nine-point run to build their lead to 46-36. Grinnell never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
The Pioneers head to California later this month to face Caltech and Claremont Mudd Scripps.
