Box Score BELOIT, Wis. – The Grinnell College women's basketball team dropped a 76-74 overtime decision to Beloit College in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.
Alissa Hirsh '16 scored a game-high 31 points for the Pioneers, who are 0-3 overall. She was 14-of-24 from the field.
Leah Greenberg '17 added 12 points and
Sophia Gatton '17 had 10.
Alex Neckopulos '17 grabbed 10 rebounds, while Hirsh dished out three assists and had three steals.
Lydia Stariha' 17 also had three assists and
Ariel Keller '17 two steals.
Lane Wieseman had 28 points for the Buccaneers, who are 2-2 overall.
The first half went back and forth early before Grinnell finished it off with an 8-2 run. Hirsh hit a jumper and Greenberg a pair of 3-pointers as Grinnell pulled away for a 37-30 lead at intermission.
The Pioneers pushed the lead as big as nine in the second half when Hirsh's jumper made it 51-42 with 10:14 left.
However, the hosts rallied and took the lead before Hirsh forced overtime with a buzzer-beater jumper at the end of regulation.
There were two ties in overtime before Beloit used a 6-0 run to pull away and secure the victory.
The Pioneers entertain Monmouth College Tuesday at Darby Gymnasium. Game time is 5 p.m.
