Pioneers have rough day of shooting in loss to Beloit

Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's basketball team suffered from a rough shooting performance in a 77-51 setback to Beloit College Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium.

The Pioneers hit just 30.4 percent of their field goal tries (17-of-56) and 56.3 percent from the free throw line (9-of-16) while falling to 1-14 in the Midwest Conference and 2-18 overall.

Anne Boldt '16 scored a game-high 20 points for Grinnell, while Sophia Gatton '17 was also in double figures with 11. She also had four assists and four steals.

Alex Neckopulos '17 led Grinnell in rebounding with six.

Lana Weiseman had 20 points for the Buccaneers, who are 5-9 in the MWC and 5-14 overall.

Grinnell fell behind by nine early before roaring back, as Gatton made a layup, Boldt two free throws, Gatton a pair of charity shots and Boldt a trey to tie the game at 14-all with 12:41 left in the first half.

Grinnell took two leads after that, the final at 20-18 on a 3-pointer by Kaitlyn Norton '17. However, Beloit answered with a nine-point run and continued to pull away, leading 39-25 at halftime.

The Pioneers got as close as nine twice in the second half, but the Buccaneers held on for the win.

Grinnell plays at St. Norbert College next Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
