GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell men's soccer team had a historical venture on Saturday afternoon in a 10-0 blanking of Beloit College at Springer Field on Senior Day.
The 10 goals tied for third-best in program history and the most since 1963, and the margin of victory was third in school history and also proved to be the largest since 1963.
Grinnell got goals from 10 different players. Though no NCAA record category exists for that, it is certainly among the best ever.
Grinnell got first-half goals from
Antonio DiMarco in the 13th minute,
Nikolai Harroun in the 16th,
Nicholas Brule in the 26th,
David Leitson in the 26th and
Michael Hurley in the 39th.
In the second half, goals came from
Artis Curiskis in the 47th minute,
Caelum Froikin in the 72d,
Joe Saenz in the 76th,
Michael Kamp in the 81st and
Eric Paige in the 86th.
Mgoal came after he worked past a defender and sent the ball above the keeper's hand, and Harroun scored when he sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
Brule scored on an assist by Leitson, who received the ball in the lower left side of the box and crossed it to Brule in the middle, who sent it into the net. Leitson scored on an assist from
Ezra Edgerton, and Hurley found the back of the net when he got the ball at the lower left side of the field, worked past two defenders and sent it past the keeper.
Curiskis scored in the second half when Hurley's shot was knocked away and Curiskis recovered it in the box and scored. Froikin scored off a rebound and Saenz took a free kick that got by the right side of the keeper.
Kamp's goal came after he rebounded the ball off a shot and sent it past the diving keeper and Paige scored on Leitson's assist after Leitson rebounded a shot, dribbled it past defenders and sent it to Kamp, who sent it by the diving keeper.
Grinnell won the shots battle 25-3, with Curiskis, Hurley, Froikin,
Ambar Kakkar and Leitson taking three each.
Major May and
Michael Nattinger combined on the shutout at keeper, with May posting two saves.
Grinnell finished its season at 7-3 in the Midwest Conference and 10-7 overall, while Beloit wound up at 4-6 in the league and 5-10-1 in all contests.
