GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 campaign in thrilling fashion Sunday afternoon, topping Silver Lake College 68-64 at Darby Gymnasium.
Alex Neckopulos had a strong opener, posting a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds.
Anne Boldt added 14 points and
Alissa Hirsh tallied 10 while dishing out four assists.
Sophia Gatton came up with two steals.
Grinnell fell behind by six points in the first half before rallying for a 38-31 halftime lead.
But Silver Lake rallied to go ahead 59-57 with 6:35 left in the game before Boldt scored to force one of three ties down the stretch.
Grinnell went ahead for good when Hirsh sank a jumper with :54 left to make it 65-63. After Silver Lake got a free throw to cut it to one, Boldt sank two free throws with :19 left and Neckopulos sealed the win with a free throw with :05 remaining.
The Pioneers play at Macalester College on Saturday.
