GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's basketball team had an incredible rally fall short as Carroll University posted a 71-58 victory at Darby Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers fell behind by as many as 14 points in the first quarter before cutting the gap to 32-29 by halftime. Grinnell tied the game at 32-all on
Alissa Hirsh's '16 3-pointer with 8:35 left in the third period.
After Carroll regained the lead,
Alex Neckopulos '17 hit a layup at the buzzer to make it 47-46 in favor of the visitors entering the final frame.
Carroll went up by three to start the fourth period before
Kayla Morrissey '18 hit a jumper to bring the hosts within 49-48 at the 8:23 mark.
However, Carroll answered with a 14-3 run en route to victory.
Neckopulos posted a double-double for Grinnell with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Leah Greenberg '17 drained 3-of-4 shots from 3-point and finished with 11 points. Hirsh dished out five assists and Neckopulos came up with three steals.
Grinnell is now 2-3 in the Midwest Conference and 4-4 overall, while Carroll moved to 3-1 in the league and 4-5 in all games.
