CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Grinnell College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip Saturday with a pair of losses against Hamline University.
After Hamline won the opener 9-1, Grinnell came out strong in the second game by breaking out to a 3-0 lead before losing 8-5. The Pioneers had six hits in the game, including two each by
Lydia Stariha '17 and
Kayla Morrissey '18.
In the top of the Pioneers' three-run first inning, Morrissey had an RBI single to left and
Megan Gibson '17 had a two-run infield single.
Hamline came back with a run in the bottom of the first, six in the second and another in the third for an 8-3 lead.
The Pioneers scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings, as Gibson had an RBI groundout in the fourth and
Sage Juveland '17 a run-scoring fielder's choice in the fifth.
In the first game, Stariha had two of the Pioneers' four hits. Hamline broke out to a 6-0 lead before Grinnell scored in the third inning on an RBI single to left by
Andi Leff '18.
Hamline added two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.
Grinnell, 0-7, plays at MacMurray on Wednesday.
