GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College record book was rewritten three times in individual categories Tuesday as the Pioneers split a softball twin bill with Iowa Wesleyan College at the Softball Complex.
Grinnell captured the opener 3-2 before losing the nightcap 10-6.
Kayla Morrissey '18 broke the program mark for hits in season and also tied the single-game home run record. Additionally,
Lydia Stariha '17 set a new school mark for runs in a season.
Morrissey had three hits on the day, giving her 43 in 2015. That tops the mark of 41 established in 1998 by Sarah Connor.
Stariha crossed the plate four times Tuesday, giving her 27 runs for the season. That tops the previous mark of 25, also by Connor, in 1999.
Morrissey also belted two homers in the second game to tie the school record shared by three other players.
On the team side, Grinnell's 2015 squad also has become tops in program history for runs in a season with 143 and homers in a season with 13. The previous mark for runs was 141, established in 2003, while the old home run record was nine in both 2000 and 2006.
In the opener,
Melissa Anderson '18 fired a seven-hitter and struck out one to get the win.
Iowa Wesleyan grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning before the Pioneers scored three times in the third on Stariha's solo homer to left and

The Pioneers held on from there for the win.
Stariha had three hits in the second game, while Morrissey and

Iowa Wesleyan scored twice in the top of the first, but the Pioneers answered with two in the bottom of the frame on Morrissey's two-run round-tripper to left center.
The visitors scored a run in the third before the Pioneers answered with two in the bottom of the inning with the aid of a wild pitch and Morrissey's solo homer to left-center.
However, Iowa Wesleyan scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 7-4 lead. Grinnell got one back in the bottom of the fifth on Anderson's RBI single to center.
After Iowa Wesleyan scored twice in the sixth,
