GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College volleyball team hung with Loras College in all three sets Tuesday night at Darby Gymnasium, but the Duhawks pulled away in each to post a 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 victory.
 
Emily Friedman '19 recorded five kills for the Pioneers while Evelyn Weidman '17 tallied four. Margaret Giles '18 dished out 11 assists and also had 12 digs, while Jennifer Joy '16 and Olivia Fromm '18 served two aces apiece. Emma Willhardt '19 had a solo block and four assists.
 
Grinnell was within 12-11 in the first set after an attack error by Loras, but the visitors countered with a 13-3 run to win.
 
The Pioneers jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the second set on Joy's kill before Loras rallied to tie things at 8-all. There were three more ties before the Duhawks again pulled away.
 
In the third set, Grinnell got out to an 8-7 lead on Fromm's kill when Loras responded. The Duhawks were up 21-13 before the Pioneers made one final push, coming as close as 22-19 on Weidman's kill before Loras scored three straight points.
 
Grinnell hosts another Iowa Conference team, Simpson College, next Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
