CHICAGO – The Grinnell College women are showing their best soccer of the 2016 season when it counts the most.
The Pioneers strung together three victories in a row for the first time since 2014 Thursday afternoon by blanking Concordia of Chicago 2-0 in non-conference play.
Seniors stepped up big for the Pioneers offensively, scoring both of the team's goals.
Carolyn Silverman '17 got things rolling when she found the back of the net in the 25th minute. It was her team-high sixth goal of the year.
Not to be outdone,
Hannah Truesdale '17 tallied her second goal in as many games when she successfully converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute. It was Truesdale's fourth goal of the year, the second-highest on the team.
The defense was equally stellar, as the Pioneers put together their second consecutive shutout. Keeper
Regan Kasprak '17 recorded her sixth shutout of the season, making one save as Grinnell moved to 7-6-2. Concordia dropped to 9-7-1.
The Pioneers owned the shots battle 15-4, with Silverman firing off six of those including three on goal. Truesdale added two shots, both on goal, and
Valencia Alvarez '20 had two shots.
Coming up with one shot each were
Lauren Hurley '18,
Nora Sahel '17,
Elyse Salpekar '19 and
Francesca Varias '18
Grinnell jumps back into Midwest Conference play Saturday with a contest at Ripon College. That contest is key as it will help shape the Pioneers' postseason hopes.
