LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Grinnell College's men's soccer team fought St. Norbert College to a deadlock in regulation, but the Green Knights scored in the second minute of overtime to emerge with a 2-1 victory in the Midwest Conference championship contest Saturday afternoon.
Grinnell played its usual gritty style while finishing at 11-7-1, its highest win total since 2008.
St. Norbert, ranked seventh in the North Region, improved to 16-3-1 and earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
St. Norbert scored in the fourth minute and it stayed 1-0 through halftime. But the Pioneers drew even, as
Francisco Sanchez-Conde '18 found the back of the net in the 53rd minute for his first goal of the season.
Evan Sorenson '19 assisted the goal, his second of the year.
It remained 1-all through the end of regulation before the Green Knights went on to win.
The Pioneers managed seven shots, including two each by
Antonio DiMarco '18 and Sorenson. Sanchez-Conde,
Artis Curiskis '18 and
Juan Marin '18 had one each.

Major May '17 made three saves.
Two Pioneers made the program's season top 10 list in 2016, as
Nick Brule '17 had 12 goals (which ranks ninth) and DiMarco finished with six assists (which ranks 10th).
Brule finished his Pioneer career ranked eighth overall in goals (23) and ninth in points (52). DiMarco and Curiskis are tied for third in assists with 15.
May is listed in several Pioneer career categories. He is fourth in shutouts (11.8), fifth in goals against average (1.13), seventh in saves (174) and ninth in saves percentage (.730).
