GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's soccer team bounced back from a heart-breaking double-overtime loss earlier in the week to shut down Nebraska Wesleyan University 2-0 at Springer Field Saturday.
Nora Sahel '17 and
Simona Bambi '20 each scored their first goals of the season, and
Regan Kasprak '19 earned the shutout at keeper as the Pioneers improved to 2-4-1 overall. Nebraska Wesleyan fell to 4-4.
The contest was scoreless at halftime before Sahel found the back of the net in the 49th minute on a penalty kick. Bambi had the ball outside the box and just as she entered, was tripped by the keeper resulting in a penalty kick. Sahel booted the ball in the air past the keeper for the goal.
Bambi gave Grinnell some breathing room with a goal in the 85th minute.
Hannah Truesdale '17 passed the ball to Bambi, who dribbled it into the box. She shot the ball and it was blocked by the keeper, but Bambi regained it and shot again from the left side into the right corner of the net.
Grinnell won the shots battle 14-11, with
Carolyn Silverman '17 taking four, Bambi three and
Sasha Baumann '17 and Sahel two apiece.
Kasprak made seven saves to earn the win at keeper.
