ANKENY, Iowa – Grinnell College's volleyball team tuned up for Saturday's key Midwest Conference test with Illinois College by stopping Faith Baptist College in three sets Thursday night.
Set scores, in favor of the Pioneers, were 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23.
Kaylin Kuhn '21 pounded down 17 kills and hit .382 for the 13-7 Pioneers, while
Olivia Jensen '21 added nine kills and hit .353.
Isabel Ambrosoli '21 dished out a career-high 23 assists and
Margaret Giles '18 had 16.
Sydney Vrecenar '18 served up three aces and had 13 digs.
Deanna Taylor '18 added 10 digs.
Grinnell shot out to a 10-2 lead in the opening set to win easily. Kuhn had two kills in that span and
Hannah Taylor '21 added one.
It was more of the same in the second set, as Grinnell scored the first six points. Five of those points came on Jensen's serve, while Kuhn and
Sophia Carbajal '21 each had kills.
Grinnell repeated its effort in the third set, going up 6-0 on Vrecenar's serve that included three aces as well as kills by Jensen, Kuhn and Giles. However, the 9-11 Eagles gradually closed in and went up 23-22.
Jensen tied things for Grinnell with a kill and Kuhn gave the Pioneers a 24-23 lead with another kill before Grinnell closed out the victory.
Grinnell plays Illinois College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill.
