DE PERE, Wis. – Grinnell College battled back hard in the third set, but in the end dropped a four-set volleyball decision at St. Norbert College Saturday.
The Green Knights, who improved to 7-1 in the Midwest Conference and 11-13 overall, won by scores of 25-14, 25-10, 23-25, 25-16. Grinnell is now 4-4 in the league and 15-8 in all matches.
Kaylin Kuhn '21 had 17 kills and hit .368 for the Pioneers, while
Margaret Giles '18 added 29 assists and 10 digs.
Deanna Taylor '18 had a match-high 19 digs and now has 404 this season, which ties for 10th-highest in program history.
Madison Smith '20 had two aces,
Sydney Vrecenar '18 contributed 10 digs and
Olivia Jensen '21 and
Hannah Taylor '21 came up with three blocks apiece.
After losing the first two sets, the Pioneers got to work in the third. Tied at 7-all, Grinnell went on a 7-3 run to pull away. Jensen had three kills in that span, while Kuhn added two.
St. Norbert rallied to force a 17-all tie, but again Grinnell pulled away as Smith had two aces and
Hannah Taylor a kill for a 20-17 edge. St. Norbert attempted to close in, getting as close as 24-23 before Kuhn's kill finished off the set.
However, the Green Knights regained momentum in the fourth set to secure the win.
Grinnell finishes off its regular season next Saturday at Monmouth College. Match time is 1 p.m.
