GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's volleyball team bounced back from Friday's tough five-set loss with a dominating performance Saturday, sweeping Lake Forest in three sets at Darby Gymnasium.
The Pioneers, who improved to 12-6 overall and 2-3 in the Midwest Conference, won by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-23. Lake Forest fell to 8-11 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Kaylin Kuhn '21 led Grinnell's balanced hitting attack with eight kills, while
Olivia Jensen '21 added seven and
Emma Willhardt '18 six. Jensen and Willhardt both hit .294 for the match.
Deanna Taylor '18 came up with 19 digs and
Margaret Giles '18 had 23 assists. Four service aces were delivered by both Kuhn and Jensen.
Grinnell led the first set 12-10 before going on an 8-2 run. Jensen had two aces in that span and Willhardt two kills as Grinnell won going away.
The second set was tied 12-all before Grinnell scored seven of the next nine points to pull away. Jensen served four of those points and
Sydney Vrecenar '18 added three.
Grinnell led the third set 19-12 before Lake Forest made things interesting, coming within 20-18 and later 24-23 before an errant serve by the visitors gave Grinnell the win.
The Pioneers play their final home match of the season Tuesday when the University of Dubuque visits Darby Gymnasium. Match time is 7 p.m.
