CLERMONT, Fla. – Grinnell College's softball team got out to a good start before Carthage College rallied for a 6-2 victory Tuesday morning.
The Pioneers, who were sparked by
Emily Jordan's '19 3-for-3 hitting performance, took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when
Melissa Anderson '18 was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a groundout and scored on Jordan's infield single.
But Carthage responded with two runs in the second frame and three in the third for a 5-1 edge. Grinnell got its other run in the bottom of the fourth when
Andi Leff '18 singled up the middle with one out and came across the plate when Jordan belted a double to left-center.
Carthage capped the scoring with a run in the fifth to improve to 5-4. The Pioneers, 1-4, received a complete-game pitching effort from Anderson. She struck out three and didn't walk a batter.
The Pioneers have a day off before facing D'Youville College and Oberlin College on Thursday.
