CLERMONT, Fla. – Grinnell College's softball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida Friday morning with a 4-0 setback to Carleton College.
The Pioneers, 2-6 overall, were held hitless until making some noise in the seventh inning.
Lydia Stariha '17 led off by reaching base on an error and, following a strikeout,
Kayla Morrissey '18 belted a single to left to break up the no-hitter.
But both runners were stranded as Carleton claimed victory.
On the trip to Florida, Stariha moved up to second in career stolen bases at Grinnell with 25 and is third in runs scored with 71.Morrissey moved up to fourth in RBIs with 60 and triples with seven.
Morrissey is also seventh in hits with 108 and Morrissey eighth with 107.
Sage Juveland '17 is 10th in runs scored with 54 and RBIs with 43.
Melissa Anderson '18 is 10th in triples with four.
After a rough start in which she gave up three runs and five hits in the first inning, Anderson bounced back on the mound. She issued just three hits the rest of the way and finished with five strikeouts.
The Pioneers host perennial power Central College in the 2017 home opener Tuesday. Doubleheader action at the softball complex begins at 1 p.m.
