NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Grinnell College's women's soccer team rallied to force overtime Wednesday, but St. Olaf College escaped with a 2-1 non-conference win Wednesday afternoon.
The hosts built a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 15th minute and maintained that cushion until halftime. In the 54th minute,
Jordan Maddaus '19 squared things up with her team-high fifth goal of the season on an assist by
Valencia Alvarez '20. On the play, Alvarez fed Maddaus with a cross from the right end line and Maddaus finished it with a shot into the right top corner of the net from 6 yards out. It was the second assist of the year for Alvarez.
The contest remained 1-all the rest of regulation. Five minutes into the extra period, St. Olaf scored a goal to improve to 9-3-2. Grinnell, playing its fifth overtime contest of the season, moved to 6-6-1.
Grinnell had five shots in the game, with Alvarez taking two and Maddaus,
Simona Bambi '20 and
Quinn Berleman-Paul '21 one each. Keeper
Elizabeth Hunt '21 made five saves.
The Pioneers jump back into Midwest Conference play Saturday with a key home contest against Monmouth College. Action at Springer Field kicks off at 2:30 p.m.
