DUBUQUE, Iowa - Grinnell College's volleyball team stepped out of league play Friday, taking on a pair of American Rivers Conference squads.
Grinnell lost a four-set decision to the University of Dubuque 25-15, 25-17 23-25, 25-23 and then fell to Loras College by consecutive 25-17 scores to move to 16-15 on the season.
In the Dubuque match,
Kaylin Kuhn '21 had a career-high 32 digs and
Sophia Carbajal '21 a career-best four solo blocks. Kuhn's dig total is fourth-best in Grinnell history for a four-set contest.
Emma Willhardt '19 had 11 kills and
Payton Lowrey '22 tallied nine.
Julianna Roth '22 added 31 assists and Lowrey had 14 digs. In the Loras match,
Hannah Taylor '21 had seven kills and Carbajal six. Roth tallied 19 assists and Kuhn added 13 digs. Lowrey had two total blocks while also serving up three aces, the same amount of aces as Kuhn.
Roth moved up to fifth on Grinnell's season-best assists list with 1,082 and Kuhn grabbed the No. 8 spot for service aces with 50. As a team, Grinnell's 1,258 assists rank fifth for a season, the 1,342 kills are seventh and 1,978 digs rank ninth.
Grinnell closes out the regular season Saturday with a home match against Illinois Tech. Action at Darby Gymnasium begins at 2 p.m.
